One example application for LED (light emitting diode) array technology is in the printing industry.  LED printers offer substantial advantages over laser technology in electrophotographic applications.

TTP has developed LedsPrint – an LED solution that doubles the quality and speed of standard laser printing. This very high powered LED array system was designed for high speed commercial electrophotographic printing of personalised documents like utility bills and bank statements. The array was designed to double both the resolution and the speed of conventional laser printers, achieving 600 dpi resolution with a running speed to 150 metres per minute.

Working with Imperial College, a leading UK university, we identified a key improvement in LED technology that allowed a much greater proportion of the emitted light to be focused onto the photosensitive drum of the printer. Our team managed the manufacture of wafers of the new material and incorporated them into 20 inch long arrays of over 12,000 precisely positioned individual LED emitters, along with high speed drive and timing electronics.
